Chapter 15: Too Disappointing!
“Yes! Mother, sell her already!” Li Jinyu triumphantly looked at Bailian, her eyes burning with a fierce fire.
Bailian sneered coldly and then twisted Matriarch Wang with one vigorous motion. Matriarch Wang exclaimed in pain, her knees softening from the sudden pain.
“It hurts! You vicious wench! How dare you! AH!” With a horrified look, Matriarch Wang was speechless from the sudden bouts of pain spreading from her wrist to the rest of her body.
“Stop!” A scolding voice broke through, dispelling Bailian’s cold aura.
“Quick! Let go of your grandmother!” The Eldest Master ran towards Baiilan with an anxious look.
Bailian casually let go of Matriarch Wang’s wrist and without even so much as care, watched the old lady fall harshly onto the ground.
“Oh!” Matriarch Wang screamed and hatefully ordered, “Quickly, son, beat her to death!”
“Matriarch…”
Grandmother Li Ciying reached out with a trembling hand, trying to help Matriarch Wang up from the ground, but her hand was slapped away by the Wang Madam: “They are all to be beaten to death! They are all unfilial things!”
When Li Jinyu heard that Bailian was about to be killed, she lurched around the courtyard until she found a sturdy broom lying near the courtyard wall, “Here, Mother, kill them all!”
“Mother, get up!” The Li Eldest Master supported his mother off the ground and dissatisfiedly looked at Bailian, “Fifth, how could you push your grandma?”
“I didn’t push her, but she beat me, I had no choice but to defend myself.” Bailian confidently retorted, looking innocently at the Eldest Master, this apparently talented person.
“Bah! You cheap wench! See if I won’t kill you!” After Matriarch Wang had been helped to her feet by her son, she took the broom from Jinyu’s hand and motioned to hit Bailian with it.
Madam Zhao and Grandmother Li Ciying hastily stepped in front of Bailian, guarding her in fear that she would get hurt.
Bailian coldly looked at the Li Eldest Master and gently nudged her Grandmother and Mother out of harm’s way. She reached out with an agile movement, and yanked the broom skilfully out of Matriarch Wang’s moving hand.
“You wench..” Matriarch Wang angrily flared at Bailian. This was the first time that Bailian had gone up against her. For the fuming Matriarch Wang, Bailain’s actions had greatly disrespected her today!
Such an unruly and defiant person should be killed!
“Crack!”
Bailian effortlessly snapped the broom in half, despite it being much thicker than her own wrist. Looking at Patriarch Li with a frosty and indifferent gaze, she said, “It was just like this earlier, I only defended.”
Patriarch Li felt a bit flustered at the situation.
“Get out of here!” Patriarch Li roared in a deep voice.
Everyone stared dumbfounded at the broken broomstick in Bailian’s hands. This broom was specifically used to sweep the courtyard, made of sturdy, solid wood. Yet it was broken in half by Bailian’s bare hands…
Hearing that the Patriarch had truly become angry, the Eldest Master assisted his hobbling mother back into the main house, while Li Jinyu ran off.
“Mother, don’t go over there.” Bailian stopped her Mother and Grandmother.
These two people, one was pregnant and one was elderly. According to the original owner’s memory, they might get beaten up. Thinking of this, Bailian could not rest assured and wanted to protect them from any harm.
“Mother will go with you.” Madam Zhao’s voice quavered slightly. Now that something like this happened, she could imagine what horrible punishment her poor daughter would receive.
Before, their family always did the most work out of everyone and were still insulted from time to time. If they showed even the tiniest bit of unwillingness, they would get beaten, but now…
Matriarch Wang wouldn’t let the Third Branch off so easily this time.
“Don’t come over here, go back to your rooms!” Bailian lightly dragged them over to the Third Branch’s rooms and after they entered the room, Bailian headed over to the main hall, closed the door, shutting herself away with the main branch.
“Fifth! Open the door ah!”
“Fifth Child!”
Madam Zhao and Grandmother Li Ciying banged and pushed at the heavy wood door on the outside, desperately wanting to protect Bailian. But, Bailian had long inserted the metal rod into the hefty lock, so their efforts were to no avail.
Bailian was afraid that if someone decided to try something, it would be extremely disadvantageous for the elderly and pregnant women. After all, medical treatment options were very scarce and rare, so it would be very bad if either got hurt.
“What’s with all the ruckus outside?! No matter how much noise you make, I’ll kill you anyway!” Matriarch Wang maliciously glared at Bailian, shouting out towards the commotion outside.
Grandmother Li Ciying and Madam Zhao fell silent. They were afraid that Matriarch Wang’s words would actually come true and Bailian could actually be beaten, so they did not leave. They firmly stood at the door and supported each other’s weak bodies. If they weren’t holding on to each other, both of them would have already collapsed on the ground in fright!
This was just too sensational!
Bailian had actually retaliated!
In the eyes of the people from the Third Branch, this situation was extremely scary! Bailain’s behavior might incite and usher in even more violent punishment!
In the past, Yuhang had been beaten by the Eldest Master’s eldest son, Li Yuwen. He unconsciously and accidentally returned a punch. In the end, Matriarch Wang and Yuwen had callously decided to hit him together. He was severely injured by their heavy hits. He had to rest and recuperate for several days before he was able to get out of bed.
But this was part of Yuhang’s fate, and he survived this calamity.
Therefore, after this incident, the Third Branch grew increasingly fearful and didn’t dare to resist. This time, they truly feared that Bailian would be killed.
Because in the eyes of others, the Third Branch was just a speck of dust, worth nothing.
Bailian mockingly judged the people in the room. Matriarch Wang looked at Bailian with a bitter look, Patriarch Li looked serious and both the Elder Master, as well as Liu Meijun appeared to be extremely disappointed.
“Kneel down!” Patriarch LIi reprimanded in a fierce tone.
“Why?” Bailian smiled naively.
She really did only legitimately defend herself, no?
If I was in my original body, I’m afraid Matriarch Wang would already be six feet deep in the ground, her gravestone two feet tall!
“Vile spawn! You talked back to your elders and tried to hit them! Why are you even asking why?” Patriarch Li angrily slammed his hand down on the table, the plates clattering from the violent impact.

“Hmph, it turns out that the Li Family’s food is really luxurious and fine ah! Just looking at those delicious dishes makes one feel ashamed. I’ve grown to be this old, but I’ve never gotten to eat even a morsel of it! But my father is even more pitiful, he has to wake up and work the fields before the sun rises, always skipping breakfast. Oh, the Third Branch hasn’t ever had this food either.” Bailian observed that there were a few plates of fresh, stir-fried green vegetables and a whole bamboo steamer full of steamed buns, some of which were made out of white flour, “It’s not surprising that my uncles and aunts wouldn’t know the plight out of Third Branch. After all, you don’t even know where our farmland is or what kind of grass the pigs need to be fed with.”
Bailian’s voice might have been very amiable and mild, almost pleasing to hear, but anyone with ears could hear that Bailian was actually mocking them, sneering at how the Third Branch worked more, but still had no food to eat.
“Bah! It’s already good enough for you to have something to eat! Just because you tried to hit me, I have a justified reason to kill you!” Matriarch Wang snorted, jeering at Bailian.
Bailian gave her a harsh look and Matriarch Wang suddenly became speechless.
Matriarch Wang was sitting next to Patriarch Li, her heart beginning to thump anxiously after she thought of Bailian’s scary attitude from earlier.
“What is this attitude! Not let you eat food?! Don’t you get food from the kitchen after we are done eating?” Patriarch Li felt that Bailian looked extremely unpleasant at the moment. Why was this child so rebellious?!
Really not at all like a child of a scholarly family! Even though scholars were well educated and balanced, even he, an elder, wanted to beat her!
“Hehe, do you think that doing all the work and eating the least amount last is fair? Do you think it’s fair that I was beaten and didn’t even get to strike back? My dear Grandfather!” Bailian snarled out the last few words, tone full of taunting and ridicule.
“Fifth! How can you talk to your Grandfather with that tone! You are truly too disappointing!” The Li Eldest Master looked at Bailian with dismay, as if Bailian was only an immature and ignorant child.
“You should just be drowned in a chamber pot, along with your grandmother! Pei!” Matriarch Wang savagely spit towards Bailian’s direction. If it wasn’t for her wrist smarting and that she had been frightened by Bailian’s secret strength, she would have beaten them long ago!
