Chapter 94: Changes
“Yu gege, Jing’er is truly too adorable, just look how keeps looking at me and smiling. What do you think he is thinking right now? With a childish and excited voice, there was no one else in the Imperial Palace that this voice could belong to if not for Murong Xuanhe.
“Jing’er is thinking, why is this gege in front of me so fun, so much cuter than him…” These teasing words came from Situ Hongyu, clear contentment in his tone.
“No way, how can I be as cute as an infant? Besides, how can I let the little treasure call me gege? That is messing with the hierarchy” Murong Xuanhe protested, unconvinced. Why did everyone treat him like a child and even let the little baby call him gege, this was truly too much.
“Hehe.” Situ Hongyu just grinned and did not refute, but he could not help sighing in his heart. He thought that no one in the Imperial Palace would ever come to visit him again. After all, it would be good enough if they did not possess hatred towards him or treat him as an enemy. But in the past, there had been the King Consort who had taken care of him regardless of past transgressions and later, there was An guifei’s sincere visits that warms people’s hearts, which had moved him unceasingly.
At this time, Liyou was standing outside the door and eavesdropped, quite satisfied with how the two were getting along.
“Who says no, you look like a child.” Liyou walked in and the first words she said were of a teasing manner. She just felt that Murong Xuanhe looked like a child. At most, he was only a little older than that little baby.
“Your Majesty, you are here. This consort greets the Empress. How come you say that as well? Your Majesty ah, this consort does not look like a child.” Murong Xuanhe first showed a pleasant smile because of the Empress’ entrance, but then he made a bitter expression hearing the Empress’ words. Even the Empress had agreed, so annoying.
“This consort pays my respects to the Empress.” Situ Hongyu was used to the Empress’ presence and everyone in the palace knew that the Empress loved her child and was very fond of him. She would come to visit whenever she had the time.
Liyou waved her hands to indicate there was no need to be so polite and walked directly to the small crib to look at the child. The infant seemed to change a little every day, the eyebrows and eyes becoming more and more delicate, extremely reminiscent of his father. It seemed that he would grow to be a very handsome man.
“Has Jing’er had his milk yet?” Liyou asked with concern.
“Yes, this consort fed him just now.” Jing’er was quite an eater and whenever he felt hungry, he would look at you pitifully with those bright eyes. It was as if he could talk, but this was where it was strange. The average infant would cry often and miserably, but Jing’er never cried, nor did he scream or make noise, only showing a cute and bright smile. Whoever saw it would like it upon seeing it, he was truly a pleasing child.
Liyou nodded and stretched out her finger and placed it next to the infant’s hands. The child’s small hands immediately latched onto her finger and smiled, making Liyou also smile.
“Your Majesty, you like children don’t you? Jing’er is very adorable.”
Murong Xuanhe was watching from the side with envy. He also really wanted to have a baby.
“You are still a child, do not think wildly.” She could guess what Murong Xuanhe was thinking, but this really gave people a headache. How could a mere child always think about such things.
Having been attacked by the Empress’ words, Murong Xuanhe closed his mouth, feeling a little aggrieved. He could not help but mutter in his heart, he was obviously not a child, he was not!
The more Murong Xuanhe thought about it, the sadder he felt. He could not figure out how he was considered a child. He was married to the Empress, but the Empress regarded him as a child. How could this be….
Murong Xuanhe was unconvinced. He watched as the Empress teased the baby and with a determined look on his face, he rushed over, hugged the Empress and kissed her!
Liyou naturally discovered that Murong Xuanhe was running towards her and was shocked. But, it was not convenient to dodge with Jing’er in her arms, so she just wrapped her arms around Murong Xuanhe and was about to ask him what he was doing. Suddenly, the face drew closer with an obviously nervous expression. Then there was a soft feeling on her lips.
Is this a kiss? Liyou could not help but have such an idea in her mind, but this idea was soon shattered by reality. It was more appropriate to say it was a bit rather than a kiss.
“You don’t have to bite Zhen if you are angry right?” Pulling Murong Xuanhe away, Liyou said this with a playful smile, and obvious hint of teasing in her eyes.
Murong Xuanhe’s face flushed and he moved his lips as if he wanted to say something, but in the end he turned around abruptly and ran out.
“Ha ha ha…” Behind Murong Xuanhe was Liyou’s happy laughter, which only made Murong Xuanhe run faster.
“Your Majesty?” Situ Hongyu called out hesitantly and Liyou restrained her amused smile and looked at him with questioning eyes, ‘En?”
“Your Majesty, if you tease Xuanhe like this, Xuanhe will be sad.” He did not know whether the Empress had understood Xuanhe’s intentions, but since Xuanhe had been willing to come and visit Situ Hongyu, he was kind and had a simple personality. He did not want to make him sad.
“Oh? Why do you say that?’
“Xuanhe likes the Empress and is also the Empress’ person. But Your Majesty treats him like a child, how can he not be sad?” How many people’s hearts have been hurt by love? Few people were truly open-minded and this kind of pain often came from the person they loved the most.
Liyou frowned. It was not that she couldn’t understand what Situ Hongyu said, but she had always ignored it. After all, in her heart, she just treated Murong Xuanhe as a child, cute and innocent. She liked him, but it was impossible to treat him like a man. After all, Murong Xuanhe was truly like a child, but if he was sad…
Liyou felt a little vexed, “Why do you say such things to Zhen? What good does it do you?”
Situ Hongyu was stunned by the Empress’ words. Then, did he only say things when it could benefit him?
“Your Majesty, you are looking down on this consort too much. What good will it do for this consort to say this? I just do not want to make such a simple person sad, but this is just this consort talking too much. You are the Empress, how can Your Majesty have the time to care about whether a consort is happy or not.”
Situ Hongyu stood there and persevered to keep his back straight from beginning to end. He knew his tone was not good and his attitude was also poor. These words would definitely offend the Empress, but he could not help but want to say it.
Facing Situ Hongyu’s provocative attitude, Liyou merely raised her eyebrows. While she did not feel angry, she felt that the situation was quite fresh. This Enchanting guifei could be frank. After a few days of contact, she found that this person was a very willful person. Hhe had a bad temper and judged the matter as it stands. This seemed to be in line with the Enchanting guifei in her memories, flamboyant and unscrupulous, burning everything like a raging flame. It was just that now, the flame had restrained itself, but its essence could not be changed.
“Then tell me, what should Zhen do so he does not feel sad?” Liyou’s casual tone suggested she was caring for Murong Xuanhe, but it was rather that she had suddenly become interested in the consort before her.
The Imperial Consort had no idea but she also discerned the Empress’ strange attitude. Thinking that the Empress truly cared about Murong Xuanhe, after thinking about it, she said, ‘This consort is not An guifei and naturally, I cannot conjecture what An guifei thinks. But, from this consort’s point of view, An guifei just likes you, the Empress. If Your Majesty can give him the same treatment as the other consorts, he should be very happy.” The people in the harem were no longer greedy and just wanted more adoration for those few nights. Otherwise, what else could they expect? The Empress was ruthless and there were three thousand in the harem. Who dared to expect to be the only one in her heart and he had once foolishly thought that he had been that singular presence.
“The same treatment. How about you, do you think your current treatment is the same as that of ordinary consorts?” Liyou once again brought the topic of conversation back to the Enchanting guifei and asked in a profound tone.
Since the Enchanting guifei had left the Cold Palace behind him, he seemed to lowkey become a different person. There was no striving, no fighting and no demands. If it weren’t for the fact that he was concerned for his child, it seemed he did not care about anything else.
Situ Hongyu was stunned by the Empress’ question. Why did the Empress ask such a question? What kind of answer did she want to hear from his mouth?
‘This consort does not understand what the Empress means. This consort does not think there is anything amiss. This consort is very satisfied with the current situation.” A person needs to learn how to be content. He did not understand this truth in the past, hence why it had landed him such a mess in the first place.
Liyou took a deep look at Situ Hongyu, a strong sense of probing in her eyes. She did not like the former Enchanting guifei, who had thrown the harem into an uproar, not knowing how to advance or retreat, having become arrogant after being favored. This had made her feel disgusted. But now, this kind of low-key consort who was so satisfied with what he had made her feel a little bit of pity. But all this had been caused by her. It was her who had cut off his wings so that he did not wish to fly again.
“Send someone to tell Fengying if you need anything, especially in regards to Jing’er. Zhen will leave first.” Liyou felt a little depressed and did not want to stay here any longer to lament the transformation of the person before her.
Walking out of Yaoyu Palace, Anhui waited on the outside. He felt that it was inappropriate to follow the Empress in. After all, he was also the Empress’ consort now, so he merely waited on standby outside Yaoyu Palace.
However, everytime the Empress came out of Yaoyu Palace, she would look happy and content. But this time, it was different. She seemed to be thinking about something with a trace of depression. Thinking of the scene of An guifei crying and running out just now, Anhui asked with some concern: “Your Majesty, is there anything you are unhappy about?”
“Nothing.” She was not unhappy, but she just felt that this man’s mind was really complicated. She could not figure it out, but felt a little vexed in her heart, “Zhen wants to go horseback riding, accompany Zhen.”
“Yes.” Anhui did not ask anything more and silently accompanied the Empress. They walked towards the hunting grounds together, but when nearing the perimeter of the grounds, they met a Luo Yu dressed in silver-white robes.
Luo Yu and Liyou stared at each other, one cold and detached while the other was tranquil and calm.
“This consort greets the King Dowager.”
Although the two masters did not speak, as people lower in hierarchy, the attendants could not just do nothing. People from both sides made their greetings, one after another, which also made the two retract their gazes
“Arise.” The two said this as if they had tacit understanding to say it at the same time and they could not help but glance at each other again.
